Celebrate the Fourth of July with a Stunning Flag Cookie Platter
The Fourth of July is a time for fireworks, fun, and delicious treats! What better way to celebrate than with a vibrant flag cookie platter? These cookies, adorned with royal icing and decorated with edible markers, are sure to impress your guests and add a festive touch to your holiday spread.
Ingredients You'll Need
- Sugar Cookies: Use your favorite recipe or store-bought dough.
- Royal Icing: For that smooth, glossy finish.
- Edible Markers: In red.
- Sprinkles: White stars
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Cut out the cookies: I printed a big flag on a piece of paper and then I cut the paper flag in several rectangles of different sizes. I used the pieces of papers as templates to cut out the cookies. I baked the cookies as normal, 350 *F for 12-13 min. Allow them to cool completely.
- Prepare the Royal Icing: Mix up a batch of royal icing. Divide it into three portions—keep one white and color the other ones with a few drops of navy blue food coloring and the other portion with a little bit of pink and red food gel color.
- Ice the Cookies: Using a piping bag or a spatula, cover the cookies with a smooth layer of royal icing. Let them dry until the icing is set, I like to leave them over night to dry.
- Decorate with Edible Markers: Once the icing is dry, using a clean ruler make some lines to make the stripes of the flags and cove one big rectangle with the navy blue icing and add the stars. For the stripes I used a brush and paint the stripes for the other part of the flag. Then I let them dry completely.
- Arrange Your Platter: You can arrange the cookies on a large platter and set a big tray or baking sheet on the table and the kids can have fun putting together all the pieces to form the flag to create a visually appealing display.
Tips for the Perfect Fourth of July Cookie Platter
You can also cut out cookies using patriotic cookie cutters and cover them with icing and add sprinkles in red, white and blue.
- Theme: Keep your designs consistent with the American flag theme. Think stars, stripes, and bursts of color.
- Texture: Experiment with different icing textures for added depth.
- Color Balance: Ensure a good mix of red, white, and blue for an eye-catching presentation.
If your want to be brave you can put the 50 stars, I tried to paint some with a white edible marker, but I did not like the look, I really love how the star sprinkles look on tope of the navy blue icing.
